　　辜振甫先生紀念圖書館所屬國立臺灣大學社會科學院教學研究大樓，是日籍建築師伊東豊雄在臺灣首件校園建築作品，本研究旨在藉此案例初探全球化下的象徵文化如何進入猶如微型城市的大學校園。1930年代臺北帝國大學東西軸線大道成形，而後經歷政權轉換，到1982年臺大校園規劃小組成立，1998年總圖書館落成，成為此軸線大道的端景。圖書館在此具有代表大學精神的使命，在2013年落成的本研究案例之中，建築師也同樣選擇以圖書館作為空間表演的主軸，並取得此建築在臺灣的公共藝術資格，學院圖書館從此進入了大學校園的公共層面。配合數位演算幾何生成的開架閱覽室為臺灣帶來了前所未有的圖書館空間體驗，本研究透過追溯圖書館作

為一種建築類型，再到臺灣圖書館現代化發展，論證案例空間的超越性與象徵意涵。　　除社會科學院大樓之外，伊東豊雄作為一位國際級建築師，另有五件在臺灣的空間相關作品，橫跨各式建築類型。當建築企圖再次藉由物理高度與工程技術的競逐奪得世界目光，其戰場卻早已悄然轉換至建築師的聲望之中，突破時間與空間限制的多元傳播媒體則更進一步加速了這個過程。建築具有藝術的前衛美學作用，本研究以圖書館建築發展為契機，梳理建築師們的相關理論與空間實驗，循著伊東豊雄建築實踐及論述的歷史線索，論及其影響力的建構。配合臺灣大學校園發展機制的轉變，釐清校方指定國際級建築師的原委，並藉此提供對明星建築師空間移植現象反思的途徑。
