六朝志怪小說的生死觀──以神存不滅為核心

死亡為人無法逃避的問題，藉由死亡議題的關照，才能彰顯生命的價值。六朝時期，政治動盪、多元雜糅的思想及自我覺醒的社會風尚，使人對生死問題投入更多關注，「形」、「神」關係成為討論的課題。宗教上，佛教主張「形盡神不滅」；道教主張「神不離形而長生」；思想上，因佛教日興，神存不滅的觀念與其他神形觀點互相激盪，遂引發形神存滅的論爭；文學上，「神」與「形」的觀念發展為「風」、「骨」，並運用於文學評論中。而大量萌興的六朝志怪小說正呼應時人對「形」、「神」問題的關注。六朝志怪小說以鬼故事為大宗，這些鬼神靈異的記載基本上肯定神存不滅的理念。因其多採體證式的敘述方式，資料除個人或轉述他人經歷外，有些取材民間習俗與
傳聞，加上魏晉史傳亦援引志怪小說中的論述，故可藉此一窺六朝時人的生死觀點與神存不滅的看法，實不可等閒視之。由於六朝志怪小說中有關神存不滅的思想來源錯綜複雜，本文以神存不滅的思想為核心，先就六朝志怪小說分別與各家生死思維的淵源進行分析，再藉其文本剖析其生死觀的承繼與發展，並佐以時人作品所體現的生死觀，以理解小說所呈現的生死觀與六朝社會風尚的關聯。另參照史事，期能建構當時社會的概況，掌握由漢至六朝生死思想的嬗變，勾勒六朝志怪小說生死觀承繼與轉變的大致輪廓。綜觀六朝志怪小說的研究，已至繽紛燦爛的豐收期，然對生命價值觀的探討，較無全面及系統性的論述，期勉本論文的研究成果能開啟另一個思考空間。
